No Surprises Act
Under a new Federal law that was put in place at the beginning of 2022, health care providers are required to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services in advance.
The No Surprises Act is intended as consumer protection against unexpected/unauthorized hospital bills. However, the broad language used in this law means that it may also apply to mental health therapists in private practice.
You are free to ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or any time during your work with them. You may request a list of available therapy services and costs up front, so that you are fully aware of what you will be charged.
If you should ever receive a healthcare bill that is at least $400 more than the prices indicated on your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. The Learn & Burn Psych psychologists will always be upfront and transparent about the costs of our services, so this should never happen in your work with us. We also bill all services in a timely manner to avoid any surprises.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
